World-class quality and uniqueness!
Despite its small size and population, Sweden has built up an independent, advanced defense industry over the decades. Swedish companies such as Saab and Hägglunds develop modern aircraft and vehicles that successfully compete with the products of Western and Eastern powers. This equipment is characterized not only by its quality, but also by its unique appearance and technical solutions that underline Swedish independence and engineering. This approach shapes the image of Sweden as a country that develops military equipment with a distinctive identity and high effectiveness.
The Viggen enters service!
The Viggen was developed in Sweden in the 1960s as a modern multi-role jet aircraft. It is characterized by its canard configuration with twin wings, which gives it an unmistakable appearance. The AJ 37 version (fighter aircraft) entered service in 1970, followed later by other versions: training, naval, reconnaissance and fighter aircraft.
Saab AJS37 Viggen version
In the 1990s, the most modern version of the Viggen fighter aircraft was created: the AJS 37. The abbreviation AJS is derived from the Swedish words "Attack", "Jakt" and "Spaning" (attack, air combat, reconnaissance) and reflects the three main tasks of this version.
The AJS 37 aircraft were modernized to carry new weapon systems, including cluster bombs and the Rb 15F maritime target missiles. Their air combat capabilities were also improved, allowing them to carry up to six Sidewinder missiles.
Cooperation with the Flygvapen Museum
The aircraft that served as the model for the COBI model can be found in the Flygvapen Museum in Linköping, the museum of the Swedish Air Force. The ghost symbol visible on the model is the emblem of the Swedish Air Force's Johan Röd (Red John) squadron, which flew Viggen fighter jets. The symbol shows a white ghost, and the squadron's motto "The Show Must Go On" was also frequently seen on their aircraft.
